I am a licensed psychologist in PA and NY who approaches presenting concerns such as anxiety, depression and relational challenges within the context and lived experiences of the individual. Having a masters degree in social work (MSW) and community-based experiences in India for 3 years, my therapeutic style reflects consideration of individual, group, communal, and systemic factors that shape the meaning of struggles in one's life and one's identity. Combining my systems approach with my training in a doctoral degree in counseling psychology in the U.S., in the past 4 years I have implemented an integrative approach that focuses on the individual's preferences and values within familial and social environments, and develop coping strategies including mindfulness.
As the current chair of the Committee on Multiculturalism in the Pennsylvania Psychological Association (PPA), I continue to advance my training through PPA on integrative approaches that anchor on the individual's and groups' presenting concerns to inform exploration, insight into familial and relational patterns, and then develop concrete, specific coping strategies. I also have training and experience in running groups for cultural adjustment, graduate student support, interpersonal process groups, intersecting identities, mindfulness for stress, and navigating acculturative stress among international students (ages 18-28 years). I have experience providing community consultations to staff around language and ways of addressing mental health concerns among students on campus and engaged in this role for a year at Cornell University. I have also provided workshops and presentations on culturally sensitive interventions among underrepresented groups and communities.
