This presentation will describe a multidimensional model of executive capacities that can be used to guide assessment and intervention efforts with children and adolescents ages 4-25. The important distinction between executive functions and executive skills will be discussed. A comprehensive framework and specific techniques for the assessment of executive capacities will be presented. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the different levels of executive control and interventions that target specific difficulties at specific levels. An intervention continuum will be presented with emphasis on intervention strategies that help children and adolescents move from external control to internal self-direction. Information from case studies will be used throughout the presentation to illustrate important concepts.
