This 3-hour workshop is for psychotherapists and psychologists seeking to deepen their understanding of treating complex trauma and dissociation using an integrative EMDR therapeutic approach. Participants will explore key EMDR strategies for working with fragmented parts, blocked processing, and dissociative defenses, integrating the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model and Polyvagal Theory. This workshop will further enhance the clinicians’ ability to facilitate safety in the therapeutic process to work through the phases of EMDR therapy with complex trauma populations while ensuring a compassionate and client-centered approach.
Objectives:
- Explain the impact of complex trauma and dissociation through the lens of EMDR therapy, integrating the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model and Polyvagal Theory.
- Identify key challenges in EMDR processing for individuals with complex trauma, including blocked processing, dissociative defenses, and fragmentation.
- Apply EMDR-informed stabilization and resourcing techniques to support clients with dissociative symptoms and promote safe trauma processing.
- Demonstrate culturally responsive EMDR strategies that address the intersection of trauma with race, gender, ethnicity, and sociocultural identity.
- Utilize practical interventions and case conceptualization strategies to adapt EMDR therapy for complex trauma populations while maintaining a client-centered, trauma-informed approach.
