This 3 hour workshop will focus on learning how to practice mindfulness-awareness meditation and a variety of mind-body techniques. The intent is to give clinicians a variety of practices for their own personal self-care and to eventually bring into their practice. Research in the area of how meditation affects the body, brain and daily life as well as general physiology of how meditation and breathing benefit the nervous system/body will be presented. Discussion on individual experience will be encouraged.
Objectives:
1.Describe the researched benefits of specific mind-body medicine therapeutic techniques.
2. Practice mindfulness-awareness meditation and develop a daily meditation practice.
3. Describe how practicing meditation relieves anxiety and stress
4. Use breathing techniques to counter the stress response.
5. Apply simple mind-body techniques in their professional practice.
Since 1998, Susanna Lack, Psy.D. has cultivated a private Media-Wallingford based therapy practice, working individually and in groups with children, adolescents and adults. As a consultant, group facilitator, and crisis specialist, she has pioneered applying mindfulness-based methods in many therapeutic settings, including partial care programs, middle schools, high schools, and colleges. Susanna has been practicing mindfulness-awareness meditation for the past 25 years and is a trained yoga instructor, a certified meditation instructor and a certified Mind Body Medicine therapist. Susanna presents at conferences such as The Mindfulness Conference in Worchester, Mass. and The International Mindfulness Conference in Delhi, India. She has taught meditation and lead meditation workshops at: University of Pennsylvania, Swarthmore College, Philadelphia Federal Detention Center, Garnet Valley School District, GlaxoSmithKline, Mariana Bracetti Academy, Temple University, Cape Cod Institute, Philips Health Care Corporation, Soul Source Yoga. Susanna offers small Women’s Self-Care Groups that explore meditation and self-awareness.
