The fields of professional psychology and psychotherapy have experienced dramatic changes in recent years. The future of the field is full of promise as well as peril. This presentation will be a condensed version of the CE webinar that Dr. O’Brien presented on 10/31/25. It will include select PowerPoint slides and plenty of time for discussion. Topics will include predictions about the future of psychotherapy, strategies for increasing treatment access to underserved populations, the impact of federal cutbacks on the field, and the potential risks and benefits of technology and artificial intelligence on the practice of psychotherapy.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Gerald “Jerry” O’Brien, Ph.D.
During a four-decade career as a licensed psychologist, Dr. Jerry O’Brien has worked in academia, community mental health, independent contracting, and private specialty group practice. Jerry was the Associate Director of the Anxiety and Agoraphobia Treatment Center in Bala Cynwyd. He has been a Board member and the Treasurer of PSCP: The Philadelphia Psychology Network and he is PSCP’s current president. Though now retired, Jerry continues to maintain a great interest in the fields of psychology and psychotherapy.
