There has been an increase in interest among the psychological community regarding the use of psychedelic medicines to support clients with chronic psychological concerns such as PTSD/childhood abuse and depression. This presentation will discuss the range of medicines psychologists may see utilized within the next 5 years, as well as their clinical applications. It will also provide an overview of legal and ethical issues. We will discuss the ways in which psychologists can provide therapeutic treatment for the preparation and integration of psychedelic medicines.

Objectives:

  1. Identify current approaches to PTSD treatment and how psychedelic medications can address limitations
  2. Describe the legality, therapeutic applications and rationale for use of classic psychedelics, empathogens and other classes of psychedelic medicines
  3. Discuss factors in providing psychedelic assisted therapy (competencies, integration strategies)
