I received my Ph.D. at Ohio University in a psychotherapy research lab focusing on the factors and processes within successful therapies that lead to improved outcomes for clients. I have been practicing for 15 years and take an integrative approach, including cognitive, psychodynamic, mindfulness, and existential techniques. I love any work dealing with relationships and the interpersonal, or any work about finding meaning and transcending ego. I do psychotherapy in Spanish, and greatly enjoy working with diverse clients. My book, Beyond Me: Practices for Expanding Compassion, provides a case for how self-consciousness and selfishness cause us suffering, and offers practices to help people boost their perspective taking, empathy, and compassion. I am originally from Palo Alto and had a career in software marketing before shifting to psychology. We moved here for my wife’s job as a tenured professor at Temple.
